The issue
Our client is working in partnership with Leicester City Council on the redevelopment of the city’s historic railway station. With Leicester’s 11.8% population boom between 2011 and 2021, the council aims to modernise the station, and significantly improve facilities, so it can better support the city’s rapidly growing economy. To make way for the proposed redevelopment, many of the station’s existing commercial units needed to be vacated and demolished. To complicate matters further, the station was home to telecommunications (telecoms) equipment, that would also need to be removed before the work could proceed.
How we helped
Transport UK required an efficient legal process to ensure the timely vacation of the station’s retail units, and removal of telecoms equipment, while keeping costs under control.Working closely with our client, Hägen Wolf devised and executed a site clearance strategy. Our strategy included terminating of existing leases, en masse, and securing vacant possession of the resulting empty retail units.
Additionally, we were able to remove, or relocate, the existing telecoms equipment operating from the station.
Our strategy ultimately ensured our client could proceed with the station redevelopment work, vital to Leicester City’s continued growth.
